Description:

A ready to race 996 GT3 Cup car...

This is one of the original 996 GT3 Cup Supercup cars. This car was delivered and campaigned in 1999 by Tim Harvey in the Porsche Supercup, supporting Formula 1 around the world. It comes with the original Wagenpass with details of all the races in that year.

After retiring from F1 support in 1999, the car has been campaigned in various UK club based series, primarily the Porsche Open (now replaced by the GT3 Challenge). The car is eligible for the GT3 Challenge, Britcar and GT Cup. It would also make an awesome track day car where it would be easier on the consumables and resale value than a road going GT3.

I have owned the car since late 2007 and raced it in the Porsche Open in 2007-2009. Specifically, it has raced at 8 Porsche Open race meetings, 2 in 2007, 4 in 2008 and 2 in 2009. During these it won a variety of 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in Class 2 (the standard class for a 996 GT3 Cup car). This car has NEVER failed to finish a race and saw no accident damage of note under my ownership. I have been supported through this time by CTR Developments.

In terms of maintenance and specification (all allowed under GT3 Challenge regs):

- c20 hours run time on engine (it was rebuilt just before I bought it)
- gearbox rebuilt c4 hours ago
- car re-mapped at 360bhp in 2008 (factory standard was 360)
- 3 way adjustable, very sophisticated Penske dampers fitted in 2008, including "third spring" between front dampers (cost over £10k)
- diff rebuilt and new diff plates fitted c2 hours ago
- new driveshafts fitted c6 hours ago
- later model, freer flowing exhaust fitted 2008
- 2 sets of wheels with 2009 michelin slicks and wets fitted
- floating brake disc upgrade (performance friction pads/discs)
- 2003/4 aero upgrades and lightweight doors and bonnet

The car is well used, but in excellent mechanical condition and respectable cosmetic condition. Thanks to the suspension the car drives very benignly and is brilliant over curbs. It is highly suitable car for the clubman racer.

The car is about to undergo its pre-season refresh and service at a cost of several thousand. If the buyer gets in fast they can specify the paint colour and any other work; it will probably not come back yellow! The Penske dampers could be replaced by standard at a slightly reduced price, but I recommend you keep them.

This is probably the cheapest GT3 Cup car on the market, ready to race and very reliable.
