Lotus Elite S2 1961
Very beautiful historic racing Elite # 1696 from 1961 for sale with matching number Climax FWE engine fully rebuilt by expert Tony Mantle. Has done only a couple of test kilometers since a full restoration. Suspension still has to settle and has to be tuned on a rolling road and aligned. Undamaged body serviced by Christian Devillers from Apal in Belgium and has had a bare fibreglass respray.
Numerous new components to prepare the Elite for historic racing again a.o. front and rear suspension with Tony Thompson springs and dampers, uprights with bigger bearings, reinforced wishbones, adjustable at the rear, reinforced inner and outher driveshafts, Dunlop Racings 204 compound front and rear, new wiring loom, high torque starter, alternator, seat and 30 litre fuel tank made by Andy Warminster (who normally welds British nuclear submarines, extra long range tank, oil cooler etc etc. Perfect ZF gearbox with NEW magnesium bell housing made by Horst Auer, rebuilt limited slip differential and Webers 40 DCOE’s. Even has new white roundels for the racing numbers ready in the car... Featured on posters in the eighties and in an article in Motor Klassiek in May 1986 and in The Lotus 14 Technical Analyses and Manual Addendum by Kees Houtzager.
This is not your usual clapped out racing car needing a full rebuild, but a beautiful rebuilt example and successfully raced in the eighties that has spent decades in a museum since 1987 and is ready to take you for a fantastic time in historic racing again.
