Here we have a sports car with much better racing performance than front engine rear wheel drive cars. It has a transverse Duratec 2.0 and close-ratio box using some other parts from a fiesta ST150 to produce a mid engine car with excellent traction. The disc brakes and 4 pot ally callipers all round give excellent stopping particularly at high speed when the underbody generates real downforce. Suspension features double adjustable AVO shocks and adjustable coil springs all round. I have run this car for 4 years in 750MC sport special but have now moved on to single seater historics.
The engine has just been refreshed and features steel rods, forged slipper pistons and a bottom end that according to SBD can rev to 9000 rpm. the head has been ported to the same pattern as SBD CNC machined heads and uses SBD larger valves than standard. Fuel injection is by a Jenveydirect-to-head throttle bodies and it is managed by an Emerald K3 ECU. The car currently has quite mild cams (raceline 210S) because we were trying to maximise torque rather than absolute power. At track days this was often the quickest car out there including Lotus costing 2 or 3 times the price.
Body work is all removable at which point the photos show how the chassis offers much better protection than other lightweight kit designs. Alloy 15X7 wheels carry Avon ZZR tyres.
