1961 Mg Midget mk1 fitted with a Oselli 1293 race/ rally spec upgrade engine.
This car is in fantastic condition throughout having had only 2 enthusiast owners from new the last since 1997. This is when the performance/ race modifications were initiated. These included the aforementioned Oselli engine along with a performance distributor a tubular exhaust manifold and exhaust system, electronic ignition and a 45 dcoe carburettor kit, the engine is believed to produce approximately 120 Bhp @6500 rpm and will rev comfortably to 7500. Prior to these works being carried out the car went through a comprehensive rebuild with most parts being replaced or reconditioned, the suspension was also lowered to give the Midget a more purposeful stance and improve the handling. The engine build spec sheet shows the flywheel to be lightened and balanced with the clutch and engine to improve response, the camshaft was replaced with a high lift A286 variant and the compression shows to be an impressive 10:1. At the same time as the engine modifications the gearbox was also removed, stripped overhauled and refitted with a set of straight cut gears, again the work was entrusted to Oselli. Also fitted was a reconditioned locked rear differential.
Since then various works have been completed to keep the Midget in tip top shape along with the fitting of a Safety Devices half roll cage, fire extinguisher and safety cut offs to allow for competing in various disciplines. As I hope can be seen from the photos the car really is in lovely condition and a credit to its previous owner and I’m sure would be guaranteed many admirers be it competing at a auto test or hill climb or on display at a classic car show.
The Midget comes with in date harnesses a current mot V5 and a certificate of authenticity from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. The mileage is currently reading 54799 miles, just 3000 more than when the rebuild was undertaken.
