2009 DALLARA IP7 INDY LIGHTS CAR

AGS

Description:

2009 DALLARA IP7 INDY LIGHTS CAR

Driven by Canadian Indy car driver James Hinchcliffe to a 2nd overall in the 2010 Indy Lights driver’s Championship, good enough for a promotion to Newman/Haas Racing for the 2011 Indy car season. The Dallara IP7 features a carbon-fibre and composite monocoque chassis mounted on 9.5 x 15 front and 14 x 15 inch rear OZ racing wheels fitted with Hoosier 23.0 x 9.5 SR 15 front and 24.5 x 13.75 RS 15 Hoosier rear tires. Power is delivered from a 90-degree Infiniti Q45 V8 delivering 420 bhp at 9,200 rpm and putting the power through a six-speed sequential gearbox. Dallara Tipo IP7 s/n 009 is still liveried in the original yellow with white and race #2 as it was when driven by Hinchcliffe in the 2009 season.

The original Indy Lights developmental open-wheeled racing series was founded in 1986 as the American Racing Series (ARS) and was renamed as the Indy Lights in 1991. From 1986 to 1992 the series used a March 85B chassis. In 1992 Lola became primary chassis constructor to the series, using a modified F3000 chassis. Buick V6 engines good for 420 hp were used. The CART-sanctioned series became the reasonably priced ticket to earn a ride in the CART series thanks to sponsorship from Firestone.

The Indy lights series became the Infiniti Pro Series in 2002 using a TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing) developed 3.5L version of the Infiniti Q45 V8 engine producing 420 horsepower fitted to a Dallara  chassis. The series popularity and entrant numbers increased thanks to a more-or-less even mix of oval and road courses. The series was initially called the Menards Infiniti Pro Series but in 2008 became the Firestone Indy Lights. As of 2021 the Dallara continues to be the series chassis builder but power today comes from a 2.0  liter turbocharged Mazda power plant.

In 2010 James Hinchcliffe competed in all 13 races driving for Team Moore Racing with race #2, winning the Pole Position at St. Pete’s, Long Beach, Watkins Glen and Edmonton. Hinchcliffe then went on to win overall at Long Beach, again at Edmonton and a third overall win at Chicagoland. Hinchcliffe also finished 5th at Barber Motorsport Park, a 3rd at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a 5th at Iowa, a 2nd at Watkins Glen, a 3rd at Infineon, a 2nd at Kentucky Speedway and a final 2nd at Homestead in Miami, good enough to finish 2nd overall in the driver’s Championship.

In April 2011, Hinchcliffe signed with Newman/Haas Racing to compete in the remainder of 2011 Indy Car Series. At the end of 2011 Newman/Haas Racing quit the Indy Car series and so Hinchcliffe moved to Andretti Autosport for the 2012-13-14 seasons. Hinchcliffe then drove for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports for 2015-16-17-18-19 seasons before finishing his career back at Andretti Autosport for the 2020–2021 season.

In 2011 and 2012 Dallara Indy Lights car s/n 009 was driven by Gustavo Yacaman who went onto to compete in Sports Car Racing in IMSA and WEC. This car was completely rebuilt during the winter of 2019-20. That included having the 4.0 Liter Infiniti engine rebuilt by Speedway Engine Development. It comes with a massive spares package including front and rear quick jacks; work stands; string bars for set up & ride height; a complete nose and front wing assembly; another spare nose and front wing that needs assembly and paint; a spare gearbox; spare headers; a full assortment of springs; half shafts; a starter; gear sets; new brake discs and brake pads; new radiators; shocks; uprights; a complete left and right rear suspension; a complete spare Dallara tub s/n 026; five sets of wheels with the lug wrench and six sets of new and low-mile race tires, more than you could use in a year of testing! Also comes with boxes of new bearings, seals and fasteners and the computer to down-load data.

Dallara IP7 Indy Lights car s/n 009 is ready to go with absolutely no issues! The Infiniti V8 runs great and sounds awesome as it climbs to its 9,200 rpm redline! The dog rings in the sequential gearbox are perfect and the diff is set up right!  Everything you need to run goes with the car.  If you’re a serious driver this is an awesome package! These cars are very cost effective to run and the V8 is as bullet proof as any race engine can be! The car is very user-friendly as it has an on-board starter, runs on 98 octane fuel and is eligible for SCCA, VARA, HSR and other series and events or private track days. It’s fitted with a Smarty Camera and a MoTec D153 display with a Motec data logger with multiple download channels and shift lights making for an awesome track day car that a single race mechanic can run and won’t break the bank. Also comes with the battery tender and a Hot Head engine oil pre-warmer. Safety check the car, brakes and tires, add fuel & go!
