Ford Escort 1976 German RS2000. Group C ATCC

I am delighted to offer for sale this genuine German 1976 MK2 Ford Escort RS2000 Australian Group C Race car that competed in the Australian Touring Car Championship from 1976 until 1979.

This is one of 25 German Built Escorts that were imported by Ford Motor Company Australia to Homologate them for racing strictly in the Australian Touring Car Championship under 2.0 litre class. These cars were quite unique in their specification, and in fact are the only 25 Mk2 Group 1 RS2000's that were manufactured with the "Luxury" package. This one is car number 24 out of the 25, and it is in fact one of 25 cars with this configuration (Specification) in the world.

A link to the Austrlian Facebook page is below. This page outlines the complete history of these 25 cars.

This Genuine Historic Race Car has significant race history which includes Bathurst (Mount Panorama), Sandown, Hang ten and Surfers Paradise. It has recently competed very successfully in Historic Motorsport all over Australia. Being represented in it's 1978 colour scheme, it presents as a very beautiful little car. Having recently received a full body restoration, the car is spotless in it's appearance.

The mechanical side of the car has also received a freshen up with a brand new engine (built by the very reputable Frank Lowndes) rebuilt "Rocket" Transmission and limited slip diff. It comes standard with 13x7 RS wheels (replica) and 13x8 Minilights. The Minilights carry racing slicks with them, and the RS wheels have "R" spec tyres on them. A period correct and original bolt in roll cage remains in the vehicle from it's original racing career. Currently fitted with the original "Ghia" bucket seats, it has existing bolt holes to fit a race seat and full six point Harness. The original dashboard remains intact and complete. There is an auxhiliary tachometer along with oil and coolant lights. These have not been drilled into the dashboard.

Additional items that are specific to these 25 cars are an Alloy sump, Ghia interior, single leaf rear springs and many unique parts and accessories. The attached facebook link has a full detailed description of part numbers and a complete description of the cars when they came to Australia

This RS2000 Escort is powered by the legendary 2.0 Pinto engine, which has twin 48mm IDA Webers, The "Pinto" is bolted to a 4 speed "Rocket" gearbox.  This car has a full floating rear end and a limited slip differential. Other mechanical items are quickshift gear selection and a fast rack rack and pinion. Single leaf rear springs and Bilstein suspension are also standard equipment. Vented Rotors and Girling Calipers complete the special options that came with these cars. The original matching numbers blcok and head also come with the car. Being a Group C Race car, it would have had many engine changes. The engine currently in the car is a genuine "German" long engine.

Originally starting as "Group 1" German RS2000 Escorts, they came to Australia with additional options so that there was no work required to homologate them for Group C racing in Australia.

This car is an absolute classic of its time. It’s such an iconic make and model, and with its ever increasing popularity, it is ready to be included in the Goodwood Festival of Speed and other historic race meetings.

This car is the "Genuine" article, and comes complete with FIA certificate of description and CAMS Historic log book. It is completely historically represented as it was in 1978. It was first raced by a young John English and Gary Scott in 1976. This was Gary Scott's first Bathurst drive. He went on to secure the fastest lap and Pole Position at Bathurst in 1986 driving a DR30 Skyline campaigned by Nissan Motor Company and Gibson Motorsport. His is today still remembered with great respect in his accomplishments to Australian Motorsport. He remembers this car fondly, and has been to see the car since it's restoration.

This car is an investment, as only 1 of 25 in the world. There are still three of these German RS2000's competing in Historic Motorsport in Australia. These are probably the rarest RS2000's, or for that matter Escorts in general in the world.

It is ready to race, or enjoy in Regularity. Having been maintained by PPE in Australia, the car is mechanically faultless. Included in pictures below are dyno sheets after the Webers were reconditioned and the car was tuned, all of the specific information that made these cars special, and other relevant information.
