Description:

1963 Tornado Talisman historic race car. This car was registered on 01/01/1963 and bought new by E.W. ( Ted ) Bunce from Maidenhead, Berks. Although the car was originally bought for Ted`s wife to do the school run etc. it was almost immediately pressed into service as a race car for Ted at the weekends. It has a huge period race history along with dozens of period photographs, race programmes and magazine write ups. It was part of the " works team " that won the Birkett 6 hour race at Silverstone in 1963 and was featured in many magazines at this time. 

During 1963/1964 the car competed successfully in many different races with a 1340 and 1500 Ford pre crossflow engine. On some weekends the car raced as both a GT car and then a saloon on the same day.

For the 1965 season the car was fitted with a Lotus twin cam engine and was part of a three car team along with two Elans known as " Team Minilite ". It was painted Minilite Blue at this time in deference to the teams sponsor and run from the Mike Spence workshops in Maidenhead. 

In 1966 the car was sold to Bob Marvin ( a close friend of Ted`s ) who with his son in law continued to race the car up until the end of 1968.

The car is 100 percent complete but does require a full restoration as it has been off the road for some 40 years. The chassis is all good and the bodywork is fibreglass. There is a very active owners club who also have the original body moulds should they be needed. F.I.A. papers are available for these cars and with light weight ( 612 Kg. ), all independant coil over suspension and highly tuneable Ford Cosworth engines makes them extremely competitive race cars. The Tornado factory only produced less than 200 of these cars and with only some 60/70 cars known to survive,  this vehicle is a rare survivor.

Tornado Talismans are eligible for many different race series including Pre 63 GT, HSCC, HRDC, CSCC, Equipe GTS, Goodwood Revival and many European series. 

The car is supplied with a 1500 GT engine and a 109E short engine.The original buff log book, chassis plate and a current V5c document accompany the car.  I also have a Lotus Twin Cam engine for sale by separate negotiation.
