Brabham BT21-48 ex Frank Williams - SOLD

This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.

Description:

This race-ready 1967 Brabham has had minimal track time since undergoing an extensive 2-year restoration by historic motor racing guru Bruce Mansell.

Currently in Australia, the car was purchased new ex-engine in 1967 from Motor Racing Developments by a young Frank Williams, who then sold it to Fred Opert in the US, where it enjoyed on-track success in the hands of various owner/drivers. With its Lotus-Ford twin cam 1600 “steel” engine and Hewland Mk5, it competed very successfully in Formula B/Libre for many years.

Brought to Australia in the early 2000s by well-known historic racer/restorer Bruce Mansell from Sydney, the car was stripped to its bare tubular frame before undergoing a comprehensive, detailed and well-documented 2-year nut and bolt restoration, right down to sourcing the period-correct shade of grey paint for the Arch Motors frame! The motor and gearbox were both completely rebuilt at the same time. The engine, gearbox, suspension and brakes are all to “original specification” as verified by CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motor Sport).

The car was then purchased by a local historic racer who campaigned the car sparingly before putting it into dry storage where it was regularly started and run up to temperature.

Purchased by the current owner in 2018, the car underwent recommissioning, was used just once for a non-racing demonstration before again being put into dry storage in late 2019. The car remains in storage just north of Sydney, New South Wales, where it is regularly started and warmed up, awaiting its new owner.

The car presents in as-restored/recommissioned condition ready-to-race with as-new Avons. It starts, runs, drives and stops just as a professionally-restored car with very little use should.

With the car comes a 6-month-old custom built fully-enclosed single axle trailer, a 6cm thick comprehensive history file (including a CD with over 100 pics of the restoration), a current CAMS log book/CoD (Category 5; Group O) and a few minor spares.

The owner will be happy to assist with freighting the car within Australia or internationally.
