Description:

Stolen Crosslé 12F historic single-seater, reward offered.

Sadly, Crosslé Car Company confirms the theft of this Crosslé 12F (together with a road-going Lotus Elise Mk1) from the owner’s home in 13012 Marseille, France, on 31 March 2020.

The owner offers a reward for information leading to the recovery of this cherished and rare car.

Constructed by Crosslé Car Company in 1967 and 1968, the 12F was designed for US Formula B regulations, winning the SCCA Runoffs (US National Championship) in 1968.

This particular 12F was the last of only 6 built. Located in France since 2015, it has competed in hill climbs as shown in the You Tube video linked below.

This 12F was displayed as part of a selection of 11 Crosslé cars on the Auto Diva stand at Epoqu’Auto in Lyon in November 2019, where the photograph above was taken. Hundreds of visitors admired the car there and took shots of their own.

Features include:-

Chassis number C12-F68-37. Space-frame in mild steel, round tubes, coated grey. Tall, extended roll hoop (specific to this car).

Four-part fibreglass body, finished in deep blue with white central stripe and Crosslé emblem. Race number 315.

Windscreen truncated as shown.

Non-standard filler cap adjacent to cockpit.

Split-rim alloy wheels with black centres and polished rims, Avon treaded tyres.

Hewland Mk 8 gearbox, serial number H8-570

Lotus Twin-Cam 1600 engine, block 3020E-6015

The Crosslé 12F is a rare historic car, with only three located in Europe at this time as far as we know (plus three in USA). It should be impossible to sell or use C12-F68-37 as a complete unit without other enthusiasts recognising the car. For this reason, we hope the thief will realise his/her mistake and return or abandon the car in a way that allows it to be recovered undamaged.

Even if dismantled for parts (which would be an act of foolish vandalism) most of the car could be quickly identified and traced to C12-F68-37. Lotus Twin-Cam 1600 engine and Hewland Mk8 gearbox in particular can be identified and linked to this car. We ask enthusiasts to watch out for such items, where offered with unclear provenance or questionable identifying marks.

On behalf of a very disappointed owner, Crosslé Car Company appreciates your interest and help in recovering this lovely historic racing car.
