Big Block. Show up to most conversations (at least in the circle of friends we keep) and those two words gain immediate credibility. Whether you need to haul heavy, or just haul ass, a big block gets it done the way nothing else does. A Corvette with a big block? With 50 years of racing history? You have our attention.

This 1967 427 Corvette was sold new in Rio Vista, California through Able Chevrolet. By March 1973, the first SCCA racing log book in the file shows the car being raced by a husband and wife out of the Northern California area in “A-Production”.  The log book notes a 2nd place finish at Riverside over Memorial Day Weekend in 1974, and the early log books continue actively up through 1978, where further notes in the file state the next owner did not actively race the car, but owned it for many years before being sold.

The car was then restored to race ready condition, and began a new life of vintage racing in the Pacific Northwest with a series of well known names in the area – Jack Goffette raced the car for a couple of years before the car was sold to Bruce Leven, who embarked on an expensive and thorough build of the car to the generally current configuration (albeit painted Orange at that time) via J&L Fabricating. When Leven passed away, the car was sold again to Jim Gallaugher, and painted silver with the black stripe as seen today. Gallaugher raced the car successfully and further developed the handling and power output to be a consistent front runner, up through 2019 at which time the car was put into race storage at J&L.

Currently fitted with a Shaver built 427ci engine that has only had three events (approx 10 hours) on it. Shaver fitted the engine with a new crank, rods, JE Pistons, valves, valve springs, lifters, timing chain and gears. The engine had an oil change and run-in service earlier this year while in storage.

Supporting the engine and power output, you will note a variety of the best components in the tidy engine bay. Huge aluminum radiator, oversized oil cooler, and large capacity oil pan - all custom made of aluminum. There is a remote oil filter set-up on the driver’s side fender. There is also an Accusump system installed under the dash to support lubrication needs of the engine. Exhaust gases exit quickly through 4 into 1 headers with immediate side exit – you will not miss the start up of this beast in the paddock.

Transmission duties are handled by a rebuilt and strengthened Muncie, which has proven to be robust and reliable on the track. Currently the car is fitted with a 3.73 rear end. There are also additional rear ends gear sets in the spares package to adjust for various track speeds and lengths.

Suspension features strengthened mounting and custom valved, double adjustable, inverted shocks. The suspension tricks continue throughout with custom rear trailing arms, tubular aluminum tie-rods, aluminum lower control arms in the rear, and 1.25” hollow adjustable front sway bar.

Brakes currently fitted are standard Corvette rotors/calipers with race pads for compliance with the last event run (Monterey Historics in 2019). There is a Wilwood proportioning valve inside the cockpit for the driver to tweak front/rear bias as needed.

Serviced, stored, and supported trackside to high standards by J&L Fabricating out of Puyallup, WA – the car has race and service records with J&L dating back through previous ownership.

The spares package that comes with the car is extensive and representative of a long history of racing. Here is just a small sample of major components included in the package:

  •  427ci Engine – Shaver rebuild, fresh engine

  • Spare wheels/tires

  • Read end gear sets – for various track set ups

  • New clutch and flywheel assembly ready to go in

  • Various used good race parts – driveshafts, cylinder heads, valve covers, crankshafts, leaf springs, etc.

  • Numerous new unused parts – axle bearings, brake seals, universal joints, wheel studs, brake rotors, calipers, hoses, belts, spark plugs, etc.

  • And more….

Car is sold on a bill of sale, comes with race log books, service invoices, race track prep/run notes, and a spares package as generally described above. Please contact us for the full spares list. The car is largely race ready, but we always recommend the minimum with a race car after acquisition – have your shop or mechanic run a full safety check on all systems, flush all fluids, new tires, new harnesses, verify fire system, etc.
