MGB Full FIA Race Car

Production of the ubiquitous & often underrated MGB started in 1962 & finally finished in 1980 by which time 523,836 Roadsters & GTs had been built. Early cars are much sought after today, in particular the ‘pull handle’ cars. The MG factory at Abingdon built a number of works competition cars, which competed at major international events including Le Mans 24hr, Sebring 12hr, Marathon-de-la-route & numerous international rallies. Modern FIA race cars like the car for sale are built to this period works competition specification to race in FIA type events. They frequently outperform much more expensive & powerful machinery, due to their powerful 4 cylinder engine & excellent handling.

UXW is an original UK supplied right hand drive pull handle MGB roadster, which was converted to FIA race specification approximately 6 years ago by Oselli Ltd. Purchased by our client from Oselli in early 2019 to run mainly in the very competitive Equipe Classic Racing series.

The shell is an original early ‘narrow tunnel, pull handle’ unit in overall very good condition.  

The engine is a Woolmer Classic built full race specification unit built in May 2022 with 4 hours run time. Fitted with an original steel crank, steel rods, high compression forged pistons, race camshaft, baffled sump & full race Burgess head. Capacity checked & sealed by an RAC scrutineer. The ignition is controlled by an MSD 6AL module, matching ignition coil & Ignitor.

Carburation is from a single Weber 48 DCOE. The exhaust is a Maniflow full race system.

The gearbox is the later & stronger 4-synchro non-overdrive model with straight cut, close ratio gears, built by Hardy Engineering. A correct FIA plate type LSD is fitted along with strengthened race spec. half shafts. Both the gearbox & differential have 7 hours running time.

The suspension is to full FIA specification & has both front & rear adjustable lever arm dampers.

The bodywork is to correct FIA specification including an aluminium bonnet. It is all in very good cosmetic condition. Repainted for the 2022 season, with matching blue hard top & black wheels.

The specification includes:

·         In-date race seat, harness & plumbed in extinguisher system.

·         Correct FIA suspension, steering & brakes.

·         Foam filled alloy fuel tank.

·         Twin Facet fuel pumps.

·         Works hard top with Lexan rear, side & door windows.

·         Spare set of matching wheels fitted with used Dunlop Racing tyres.

·         FIA HTP valid until 31/12/2029

Eligible for some of the very best events & race series both in UK & Europe. Including Equipe Classic Racing, RAC Pall Mall Cup, HSCC Classic K & GT & Sports Car Cup.

Since current ownership, UXW has been prepared by Woolmer Classic Engineering regardless of cost, with substantial chassis & suspension tuning.

UXW is one of the best FIA specification MGB’s in the UK, with regular podiums in the super competitive Equipe GTS series at various UK circuits. She also took an outright win in the RAC Pall Mall Cup at Donington in May 2021.
