1963 Jaguar Mk2 3.8 FIA race car

In 1961 British saloon car racing saw a new dominant force in the shape pf the Jaguar Mk2 3.8 litre. At the opening round at Snetterton all steps of the podium were taken by Sir Gawaine Baillie, John Surtees and Dennis Taylor in Jaguar Mk2 3.8.  

The following month at Goodwood in the St Mary’s Trophy the top five read like a whos who of British racing at that time, Michael Parkes won, Graham Hill second with Taylor, Baillie and Bruce McLaren following up all in Jaguar Mk2 3.8. Parkes and Hill were driving Tommy Sopworth’s stunning blue liveried Equipe Endeavour cars. 

For a very long time I had wanted to build an homage to the Equipe Endeavour Jaguar Mk2 race cars and in 2013 I bought a stalled restoration project of an original manual 3.8 RHD Mk2. 

The car first went on track in 2015 and after some inevitable teething problems it was entered into the 2015 Goodwood Revival St Mary’s Trophy. I shared the car with Tiff Needell and we finished midfield. As the 1960’s St Mary’s Trophy includes the later Lotus Cortinas a Jaguar Mk2 will sadly never repeat history and win but will always be the most evocative car in the grid with the distinctive growl and sideways cornering!

I sold the car after Goodwood to noted historic racing driver, Dr “Spike” Milligan. Spike has used the car since 2016 for the occasional track day at Goodwood but very little else and now has come to the realisation that his racing days are behind him and its time to move the car onto its next custodian. 

I know to my own personal cost how well this car was built and most of the bills remain on file to act as a painful reminder as to how far over budget it was!! 

The car has FIA HTP papers until the end of 2025 but will need recommissioning before racing again. It is eligible for HRDC Jack Sears, Peter Autos, Tour Auto, Modena Cento Ore, Spa 6 Hour, Motor Racing Legends Jaguar Challenge and of course Goodwood Revival St Mary’s Trophy.
