This 1989 MG Metro 6R4 is a unique amalgamation and blend of 1980s Group B, F1, F2 and Le Mans 24hr racing, and was bought as a Clubman Shell from the Group B stock following the Group B ban.

It is 2WD and features a 2500cc Hart 420R engine mated to an uprated Hewland FGC gearbox.

According to EWRC records, Q777 RDS (the car was registered on a ‘Q’ plate from the outset) was campaigned by Murray Grierson from 1989 to 1992, with notable results including 5 wins.  EWRC records also list three other owners of the car. 

In September 2023 this extraordinary machine completed a thoroughly expert, totally comprehensive and utterly painstaking 9-month restoration project, with significant contributions from friends and family, Ronaldson Mechanical Services, Highland Speed Shop, Hewland Classic/PDS Racing, Mardis Gras Motorsport, Panel Craft, Hestan Composites, and Foss Fabrications – to name but a few. 

The vendor, a successful businessman whose abiding passion is motorsports and, in particular, rallying, has had a successful motorsports team for many years and has owned and campaigned Q777 for over a decade.

The car has new sills, a proper tank floor by Panel Craft, and has been epoxy primed and given several layers of 2K paint.

The following is a list of highlights from the recent work, indicating - where relevant - the number of miles covered since the work was carried out. 

Engine: re-built by Jim Oddy - 300 miles.

Engine Servicing: crank shaft oil seal, belts, oil and filters.

Engine Management: Omex 600 ECU, wiring loom, 55mm Jenvey throttle bodies  - 100 miles.

Gearbox: fully rebuilt by PDS Racing/Hewland Classic - 5 miles.

Gear Selection: Linear bearings - 5 miles.

Clutch: AP racing twin plate – 25 miles.

Suspension: Proflex 2 or 3 way - 300 miles.

Wheel bearings: new - 5 miles.              

Wheels: 15” gravel and 16” tarmac.

Brakes: new seals and link pipes where required plus additional spares supplied in spares package. 

Intercom: Stillo WRC+.

Spares: original Bilstein shocks, drive shafts, Hart 420R cylinder head, pistons, rings, coil pack, HT leads and more.

Seats: new seats Feb 24.

MoT: valid until 14.3.25.

Harnesses and fire extinguishers: new Feb 24.
