History: original BMW Motorsport – ex-HAT and ex-Ronnie Peterson

Chassis number e21-R1-07 is one of the original BMW Motorsport cars built in 1977 for participation in the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft (DRM) in Group 5 (Division 2, up to 2000cc).

The car was originally delivered to Hohmann Auto Technik (HAT), a team with close ties to BMW Motorsport. During the 1977 season, this car was entered in several DRM races with drivers such as Ronnie Peterson, Mario Ketterer, Jochen Dauer, Rudolf Doetsch, and others.

It retains its original 1977/78 Wagenpass and has a documented race history, making it exceptionally valuable for participation in historic racing events.

Subsequent history:

1978: Sold to Helmut Bross, re-entered in DRM under the HAT banner
1979: Sold via Tom Walkinshaw to Gerry Tyack (UK), used for hillclimbs
1980s: Owned by Brian Chatfield – active in various British racing series
1993: Reacquired by Tom Walkinshaw
Later: Owned by Munich Legends and Kevin Underwood
2007: Purchased as a rolling chassis by a collector, followed by a full restoration

Full Restoration in Australia (2011–2017)

Between 2011 and 2017, this BMW underwent a complete “nut-and-bolt” restoration in Australia, carried out to the highest standard. Every component was professionally rebuilt or replaced with great attention to detail and in accordance with FIA Group 5 specifications.

Everything is thoroughly documented, and the result is a car that is in top mechanical and visual condition. The engine and gearbox have only 6 hours of use since rebuild.
