1964 Merlyn Mk6a 1600 Lotus Twin cam

This car has been invited to race at the 2025 Goodwood Revival.

Raced regularly, successfully and reliably. Throughout 2024 the car raced every round with HSCC Guards with 100% reliability and multiple class P2 finishes (Neil/George Daws).

Fully documented chassis up rebuild in 2023 by Peter/James Denty.  Including (but not limited to) shocks tested and replated, new brakes, anti-roll bars, full exhaust,  driveshafts and gearbox rebuild (Mark Bailey).  Bodywork refitted and repainted at this time with new screens.

9 hours (1 test + 6 races) on the 1600cc Lotus TwinCam since full JW Engines rebuild at the start of 2024 with another full season of life in it. Dynoed at 177hp. 

Oil pressure is immediate and rock solid, never runs hot, starts easy.
Competitive results finishing 2nd in Guards SRA class championship (3rd overall).
60l fuel capacity (1x28l tank and 1x32l tank).

Tillet seat.
Spare set of wheels and other bits and pieces.
Plenty of life in discs and pads, it really is ready to go with just new fluids.
It has expired FIA papers, our plan was to switch to HSCC papers for 2025.

This car initially (like many Merlyns) was sold to America.  It raced there doing clubman racing in period, before being brought back here and being restored by Sherwood Restorations.  We purchased the car in 2011 and have used it, to great enjoyment, in HSCC Guards since.  Should you be interested do feel free to ask any Guards regulars their thoughts as it’s well known to them.

An attractive sports racing car with an invite to race at Goodwood Revival 2025, very enjoyable to drive and a nice alternative to fight the Lotus 23b, Elva mk7 etc.  Benefits from spare parts for Merlyns being very available and easily worked on.  Great for HSCC Guards and I also see Equipe are starting a pre-66 under 2000cc Sports Racer series that this would be very competitive in.

Our only reason for sale is that we used this as our ‘Dad and Lad’ race car.  As my Father has now hung up his helmet and the Merlyn is the only car I have raced, I decided to go a different direction for my own racing.  We will however be regularly racing with the HSCC and happy to answer any questions at race meetings.  Not that you would have many as it is a very straightforward, reliable and pleasant car to drive.

Asking price £68,000.  Car is located in Chipping Campden, Glos.  Separate spare Lotus Twin cam being rebuilt to the same specification by JW engines available by separate negotiation if desired.
