Ferrari F2004 Michael Schumacher show car / simulator

Description:

Ferrari F2004 and Michael Schumacher
Two racing icons. Two racing legends. Ferrari and Schuamcher. The iconic F2004 combined them to break records and write new racing history.  Michael Schumacher won his record seventh and last drivers world championship in this car. Whilst Ferrari secured their sixth consecutive constructors world championship. This car, was THE record breaker. Schumacher won 12 of the first 13 races in one of the greatest runs in F1 history. Michael broke every record in Formula one (most titles, most wins, most poles, most podiums, most points, most podiums in a season etc etc) with Ferrari, of which he still holds many either outright or jointly with Lewis Hamilton.

Manufacturer
The car was created by Asian replica, a global specialist in bespoke fibreglass creations. Its clients include Disney, Nasa, the British Museum and numerous other blue chip companies such as the Renault F1 team. Asian replica created official Renault F1 show cars from between 2007-2011 before Renault exited F1 at the end of 2011. This particular car is an unofficial replica, re-creating the F2004 design.

Build
The F2004 has been created using steel frame work and fibre glass.  The tyres are a soft rubber like material, soft like an actual F1 tyre. The wheels, nose, wing mirrors and head rest are easily removeable to leave the main chassis. Other parts such as the bargeboards are removeable but are bolted on and require tools to remove.
The main chassis weighs around 350kg, with the wheels and nose it is closer to 425kg.
The car has a steel plate attached to the bottom of it that has 8 coaster wheels attached (diameter about 8cm). The car is moved on these wheels. The actual car wheels do not roll and the steering wheel does not turn the wheels. On a flat smooth surface two people can comfortably roll the chassis. The travel wheels can be removed if you wished to wall mount the car.

Car History
The car was originally created as a recreation of the 2004 Ferrari Formula one car. It was used as a show car in the entrance hall of a Ferrari F1 team supplier. Although it is not an official Ferrari show car.

The car was then purchased on behalf of the comic book and film maker, Marvel, who vinyl wrapped it in a design inspired by the famous comic artist Roy Lichtenstein. It was used in promotional campaigns for Marvel, a movie premiere and in an exhibition at the Tower of London.

Since then the car has been restored back to its F2004 form, using some genuine race used Formula aerodynamic pieces such as engine wing, sidepod winglets, barge boards, deflectors and exhaust parts. It has also had simulator functionality added.

Show car / Simulator mode
There are many beautiful show cars in existence, but all you can do is look at them or maybe just sit in them. There are also many fantastic simulators but nearly all simulators have large ugly screens with large metal frames bolted to them or they are only the front half of the F1 car or they are missing a front wing and tyres – these break the illusion of a beautiful Formula 1 car, which is in itself a piece of art.

The brief with this F2004 was to create a show car that looks completely like a real raced F1 car (as good show cars should) and also function as a simulator with latest generation simulator equipment. It needed to be able to switch between the two. The design choice was made to go via the Virtual reality route (VR) to avoid ugly screens but also because the experience of VR compared to flat screens is hard to put into words. Once you race in VR, you do not race on flat screens ever again. It is that good. You are in a 3D world, rather than looking at a 2D screen.
The car has two steering wheels. A replica of the F2004 wheel for when it’s a show car and a Fanatec GT3 single seater styled simulator wheel for when you are racing in it as a simulator. It also has two head rests. One is the F2004 and the other is leather lined memory foam for more comfort and space in the cockpit for longer racing sessions. Both steering wheels have quick releases like a real Formula one car and can be changed in seconds. The headrests can also be swapped over in seconds.
All of the simulator hardware is hidden within the sidepods and the VR headset can be unplugged and removed to ensure the car looks 100% like a real car when not being used.

Please note that TV screens/monitors can easily be added if this is the preference of the buyer.

Simulator specification
- Playstation 5, the latest slimline edition released by Sony.
- Playstation Virtual Reality 2 (PSVR2) headset, the second edition of VR from Sony, released in late 2023
- Fanatec DD Pro, 8nm upgraded edition for enhanced force feedback. Compatible with the supplied Playstation 5 and PC.
- Fanatec CSL Elite steering wheel, single seater inspired design. The steering wheel has two “clutch” levers on the back that can be used for “throttle and brake”. A switch on the steering wheel turns this mode on. This allows smaller drivers that can not reach the pedals to enjoy the simulator.
- Fanatec CSL pedals with upgraded hydraulic springs for increased realism. The pedals are fixed to the chassis. With modification they can be moved to a new fixed location. However, if people of differing heights are to use the simulator then adding foam inserts to the seat (these are provided) is recommended.
- HISENSE HS214 2.1 surround sound bar, 108w with built in subwoofer, located directly underneath the drivers seat for optimum sound and bass
- 10 inch mini TV, optional small screen. This is not required for usage but allows a ‘race engineer’ to navigate the menu’s and setup the race from outside the cockpit. It also allows an audience to see what the driver sees.

It is also possible to switch to a PC setup. All of the above equipment is compatible with PC. The PSVR2 headset does require an adapter.

Driver
The simulator can cater for people of varying sizes and heights with the addition of throttle and brake levers on the steering wheel for those too short to reach the pedals and with the provided cushions added to the seats. For comfortable racing in a normal F1 driver position a maximum height of approximately 185cm is recommended. Taller drivers are able to use it but they have to sit high in the seat (head covering the airbox). Maximum weight would probably be around 95kg, the weight is not the issue, more so the bulk around the torso preventing free steering wheel movements.
Maximum UK shoe size 11 or size 12 if racing without shoes.

Minimum age and size would be around the size of an average 7-8 year old. You are able to turn the steering wheel force feedback down if it is too much for children.
