Genuine BMW Team Schnitzer Factory BTCC /APTCC Championship Winning Class 2 E36 2.0L Touring Car

The car in which ‘Smokin’ Jo Winkelhock drove to multiple victories and podiums in the 1994 British Touring Car and Asia Pacific Touring Car Championships, run by the factory team Schnitzer. Also driven by Steve Soper in a few BTCC rounds that year.

Winner of the 1994 Asia Pacific Touring Car Championship (APTCC), winning both Macau Grand Prix rounds, one of the Wellington rounds and finishing on the podium in both races at Fuji.

In 1995 the car returned to BMW and was then sold to AM Holzer where it was driven by Alex Gaggl in the 1995 SuperTourenWagen Cup (STW), participating in 20 races that season.

In 2008 and 2009 the car was raced in the Campeonato de Canarias de Turismo de Velocidad in the Canary Islands by Roberto Lopez, winning the title in 2009. It stayed there for the 2011 season where it was raced by Juan Francisco Alonso.

It then stayed in storage in the UK until 2018 when it was purchased and sympathetically restored to the glorious FINA liveried car you see today.

The fuel system and lines were replaced as were the wiring looms for safety and reliability’s sake. The original 2.0 S14 was given a check over and rebuild. The 2.9 S14 that was used in the car in the Canary Island races was sold. Any original parts have all been saved for history’s sake.

The chassis is still as it was when raced and although tidied up is still very original and has not undergone a full restoration. 

The car runs today very strongly and has been limited to 8500rpm for longevity’s sake. The 6 speed sequential Holinger Z box and magnesium cased ‘reverse running’ 3.91 differential operate perfectly with fresh ‘shift cut’ switches in place as part of the wiring refresh as well as a brand new SCS ECU.

The car has a new fire system, Recaro seat and Sabelt belts and is ready to race in the British CTCRC supertourer series or the German old-timer reunions among other popular series showcasing these epic touring cars from the best era we’ve ever seen. 

It is the car that has been on show and demonstrated at the three past years of Supertouring power at Brands hatch and has run at Spa and brands hatch on recent track days.

It could also justify being a museum piece or an occasional toy to show off and have fun in at a track day or to run up the hill at Goodwood FOS.

The car can be provided with an enclosed Brian James RT4 trailer at reasonable cost if required.
