Description:

1700cc Ford Crossflow engine, new professional rebuild with optional webers.

Engine components are as follows.

Block – Late Ford 1600 711 block. Oil gallery plugs and core plugs removed, galleries rodded and pressure blasted. Bored and plateau honed to 83.06 for 1700cc pistons. Headface checked as flat. New camshaft bearings. Tappet housings checked (all good). All threads cleaned and checked. Chemically cleaned inside and out. New gallery plugs and core plugs. Three coats of black engine high temp enamel. New block breather and filter.

Crankshaft – Ford 1600cc. Reground and polished to middle limits. Alignment checked. Balanced by Swaymar engineering.

Pistons – New Hepolite high compression for 1700 crossflow with new rings pins clips etc. Balanced to 1 gram.

Con rods – Latest pattern 1600, lightened, stress relieved and end to end balanced to 1 gram. New small ends and new Burton high strength big end bolts.

New main bearings, big ends and thrust washers.

Camshaft – New Kent cams spec 234 ground on a new blank. Timed as Kent spec at 103 degrees ATDC. New cam followers with new chain and tensioner system

Remanufactured  high pressure oil pump and filter

Head – Gas flowed 1600 chambered head fitted with lead free inserts and bronze guides. 3 angle seats. Reshaped valves with new seals. New double valve springs on correct installation height . Skimmed face to set CR at 10.3. New thermostat. New temp sender. Period crackle finish rocker cover.

New rocker shaft with new steel pedestals. Selected refaced rockers.

Flywheel lightened and balanced by AMS as a separate unit.

New oil filler cap. New oil pressure sender. All new gaskets and front and rear oil seals.

Distributor rebuilt 23 D pattern (zero spindle play) with new 32 ounce points, new rotor, condenser, new cap, new leads and plugs.

Starter motor recently overhauled

Optional- pair of period fully rebuilt Italian built Weber DCOE40 carburettors on flowed semi downdraught manifold with some linkage prepared as follows-

Chokes 33, Main jets 115, Emulsion tubes F14, Air correctors 155, Idle jets F8 50, Pumps 35.

This engine specification is very similar to the Super Sprint engines fitted to Caterham 7s in the mid 80s through to the late 90s. When correctly set up it should produce in the region of 135 BHP with good low down torque. It would be an ideal replacement for a tired original engine or a fast Escort or Cortina.
