A genuine MG Metro 6R4 chassis with a unique history in the Trophée Andros ice racing championship.

The 6R4 chassis has a period French motorsport FFSA passport for its current configuration and will not be split. There is no engine or transmission, only the parts specifically listed below are included in the sale. It is located in Normandy, France, within easy access of the ferry ports at St Malo or Caen, Ouistreham. 

History

This Metro 6R4 chassis was campaigned in the French Trophée Andros ice racing championship by Laurent JeanJean and François Fiat. It is one of 200 designed by Williams Grand Prix engineering and manufactured by Austin Rover to comply with group B rally regulations in the mid 1980s. It was modified in the late 1990s by specialists CA Sport, who designed and manufactured a carbon kevlar Ford Fiesta Mk3 body to suit the wide-track of the Metro 6R4. The original roll cage was not approved for ice racing and so it was replaced with a comprehensive FFSA approved version, which the car retains today. Also still present are the removable strengthening structures that were added to protect the front and rear of the car from the rigours of ice racing.  

The core of the car remains a 6R4, and the key engine, cabin and transmission compartments are as original. The front suspension turrets have been modified. There is an FFSA French technical passport for the car, naming it as a Fiesta V6R4.

The current owner intended to return the car to a Metro shape with the option to retain the Fiesta body, as part of the car’s heritage. A semi-stripped 3-door donor Metro rolling shell is included in the sale to provide all of the necessary metal panels and other correct Metro period parts, such as lights, instruments etc. There is no 6R4 bodykit, but these are still available to purchase from UK specialists. There is some cosmetic damage to the panels, which remain in their period Trophée Andros livery.

6R4 space-frame modified chassis, with detachable front and rear chassis protection bars.

6R4 specific fuel filler and mechanism, pedal box, perspex mid-screen, expansion tank and power steering reservoir. Kevlar inner rear wheel arches. Works kevlar dashboard (modified). 2 suspension wishbones.

A complete 3-door Mk2 LHD Metro rolling shell, including doors, lights, grill, steering wheel, LHD dashboard and gauges (for the correct period look).

A complete Fiesta Mk3 lightweight body and panels, all manufactured in high quality carbon kevlar, unless otherwise stated: Ford Fiesta Mk3, 3-door hatchback body shell, 2 exterior sills, 2 doors, 1 tailgate with adjustable carbon fibre wing. 1 bonnet, headlights and tail lights, front and rear bumpers (damaged), 2 fibreglass front wheel arches. The panels retain period stickers and have some repairable damage. Perspex side and rear windows are also included.
