History

The Austin Healey 3000 models were the upgraded 6 cylinder versions of the Austin Healey 100/6. The 3000 model was announced in 1959 and was an immediate success around the world, particularly in America. Apart from an uprated 2912cc 124bhp engine, the other main change from the previous 100/6 model was the addition of front disc brakes. Production ran until 1967.

The BN7 model is the rare 2 seater specification, this model was used by the BMC Competitions Dept. & the Donald Healey Motor Company to build the works race & rally cars, being lighter & stronger than the 2+2 model.

In period many were used as weekend race & rally cars, some became dedicated race & rally cars. The factory built ‘Works’ cars achieved huge successes in international competition. In all forms of competition 3000s punched well above their weight & continue to do the same today, often embarrassing much more expensive machinery…

The Car
YNY is an original UK supplied right hand drive 1959 Austin Healey 3000 BN7. Only 68 RHD home market BN7s were built in 1959 & only 157 in total. Built between 26th & 27th August & despatched to Barratts Ltd of Canterbury on 10th September 1959.

It has had nine owners over the past 66 years, the current lady owner acquired the car on 14th November 2008 as a very good fast road car. Over the intervening 17 years she has developed YNY to be a very competitive Sprint & Hill Climb car, winning the Austin Healey Club Championship in 2014. Also winner of British Woman’s Racing Drivers Club (BWRDC) Speed Championship in 2016.

YNY is on the button & ready to be enjoyed. It is a very versatile car, which can be enjoyed as a very fast road car immediately. With minimal modification it could be converted into a tarmac rally car, or with further modification would make a very competitive circuit race car.

The car comes with much of its original factory interior including seats, carpets, trim etc.

A very detailed history file accompanies the car, with correspondence from previous owners, MOTs & invoices dating back to 1975.

·         Plate type limited slip differential with 4.3:1 ratio.

·         Rear roll cage. Sparco race seat & Motolita steering wheel.

·         Sprint specification alloy foam filled fuel cell & Facet fuel pump.

·         Minilite specification alloys.
