1974 Porsche 911 to FIA Carrera 3.0 RSR Specification
Description:
William I'Anson Ltd are prooud to offer for sale this exceptional 1974 Porsche 911 to FIA Carrera 3.0 RSR Specification.
Previous owner, Mark Sumpter, is a man who needs no introduction in the Porsche world. He has been at the very forefront of both contemporary and historic racing, for over 30 years. A BRDC member, 2000 British GT Champion, and winner of the 2008 Britcar 24 Hours, he has competed in the FIA GT and at the Daytona 24 Hours as well as being a multiple race winner in both historic Group C and historic GT2 and 2018 championship winner of Peter Auto’s highly competitive 2.0L Cup. Always behind the wheel of a Porsche this was very much his project.
This is not your average 3.0 RSR, the time and attention to details that has gone into this car is staggering. Having raced the Ex-Giroio Schön 3.0 RSR back in 2016, Mark set about searching for the correct car on which to base this stunning restoration.
A stickler for detail, and with a vast knowledge of all things Porsche, Mark knew that the hardest part of restoring a car to this level of authenticity is sourcing the rare and correct original parts. Leading Porsche expert Neil Bainbridge was on hand to supply those almost impossible to find parts that make all of the difference in a project like this.
Restored for Mark to absolute front running FIA 1974 Carrera 3.0 RSR specification, with no-expense spared, from a correct California titled 1974 (non-sunroof) Porsche 911, by the highly regarded Jordan Racing Team (JRT).
Utilising the skills of a veritable ‘whose who’ of the Porsche racing world, the car was stripped and handed to Normandale Refinishing, who converted this car to the iconic wide arched 3.0-Litre RSR format.
The engine and gearbox were built by internationally renowned Porsche specialists Maxted-Page and the final assembly was completed by JRT in 2021, ready for Mark to take on Peter Auto’s prestigious CER1 series in 2022. This it did with admirable success.
With only three races to its name since the restoration, it has already proven itself to be a front running car, even with the time penalty imposed on it at the time for being a ‘continuation’ car (which no longer applies).
With FIA HTP papers valid through 2032 and a current UK V5C, this offers a fabulous array of opportunities for the season ahead. Whether the Tour Auto and Modena Centro Ore, Peter Auto’s CER1 (with the 2026 rules abolishing the time penalty previously placed in 2022 for being a ‘continuation’ car), the 3.0 RSR has repeatedly proven itself as the class of the field, and this car is no exception.
