The late 1980s and early 1990s marked one of Formula 1’s most intense and defining era’s. With 39 drivers vying for the 26 available grid positions available for the Grand Prix on Sunday, with all cars now all boasting 3.5 litre V8, V10 or V12 engines, after the ban of the turbos at the end of 1988, it was dramatic, politically charged, and a fiercely competitive chapter in the history of Formula 1.

Chassis 007 is the last and most developed example of the Onyx Formula 1 cars, from the Swiss-owned Monteverdi Onyx Formula 1 Team, who still stand to this day as the solely owned Swiss Formula 1 constructor to compete in the Formula 1 World Championship.

This car competed in multiple Grand Prix including San Marino, Monaco, Canada, Mexico and Germany, achieving promising performances such as 11th at the 1990 Monaco Grand Prix and 12th at Imola in the hands of flying Finn, JJ Lehto.

Raced by two time Le Mans Winner, and 62 Grand Prix starting, JJ Lehto and Switzerland’s Gregor Foitek, son of Karl Foitek who was a 25% owner of the Monteverdi team, throughout the immensely competitive 1990 Formula 1 season, reflecting the team’s competitive ambitions during one of Formula 1’s most intense and defining era’s, centred around the fierce rivalry between Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost at McLaren.

Retaining its period Ford Cosworth DFR V8 engine which has been professionally rebuilt, 007 remains substantially original, having been preserved in running condition within the Monteverdi collection for many years until it was acquired by its current owner.

Rebuilt to exacting standards by F1 specialists Tim Preston and his expert team, with help from the Onyx’s founder and team owner Mike Earle, 007 is also accompanied by a comprehensive spares package and documentation.

This car is welcomed by leading organisers such as Motor Racing Legends, Peter Auto and Masters Historic Racing for participation at major international circuits, whilst being a fantastic opportunity to showcase a 90’s Formula 1 car at events such as the Super Car Driver's Secret Meet, Official Formula 1 demonstrations and more.
