GulfTig-Gulf Racing Tiger... A TIGER, in its natural habitat, the race track.

Tiger R6,  in pretty Gulf colours. Very little road use (could be used on road, has V5, but fully track modified now and only trailered to track). Been track developed, over 4 years,  with the help and guidance of Paul & Jim Dudley at Tiger Cars in Wisbech, the manufacturers.

About 9 yrs ago, after trying a 7 on track and experiencing the associated adrenaline rush, I realised that I had to have one in my life. I thought I wanted a Caterham 7 and looked at the options and affordability and thought better of it.  With a heap of research I soon realised that Tigers were super affordable, true Locost trackday weapons. So, I started with an Avon, an ex raced, highly competitive one, from the Tiger Race series that Jim & Paul used to run.  That Avon Tiger I ran for 3 years and redeveloped for trackdays and then my son purchased it from me,  I upgraded to GulfTig, and we ran trackdays, Father & son, together for several years. He’s sold his recently and we both have BMW project tools...just couldn't cage and contain 2 Tigers, or we would.

We had a ton of help and support and circuit development help from the Tiger clan at Wisbech, they are brilliant at what they do. A family business that has been doing it for decades and allowing ordinary folks like us to get on track with very capable machinery for literally buttons compared to what you can spend.  If you are seriously looking for a cost effective 7 style car then this is a proven package and the track is the only place to safely enjoy the performance. Nothing been skimped on, treated as a Race not Road car

GulfTig is a grown up 2 seater Go Kart!  It's a 2007 R6 built by a poor chap who has passed.  He built it to a very high spec and presentation and was bought in to stock by Tiger and I upgraded into it from my Avon Tiger, with my son buying that original Avon from me

It has only had a very small amount of road use by me, all set up track focussed. It is very low, has been set up totally for track work, widening, ride height, suspension, camber, everything. Most importantly it is a reliable bundle of joy now.  It takes years of trackdays, time and effort to get any track or race car to work beautifully, right across the board, to nail down reliability and performance and handling, balance.  That’s getting it to its best operating capability with dyno work/jetting/fuelling, Ignition mapping then suspension/ camber tweaks/testing, brakes, track manners etc. Like any circuit based tool, it’s always a development. Everything on the car is straightforward, its Weber carbs, no complex electronics, everything is affordable, easy to source, easy to access and sort. It is super cheap to run, including being very nice on its tyres which saves you a bundle of trackday cash.

Tiger have done a load of work on both our Tigers keeping them straight, advising and tuning motors, carburation, bodywork, suspension, everything for us, we trailer the cars all the way back and forth to Wisbech from Ipswich to ensure they receive the best attention. Always had whatever is needed and more.

We’ve done Snetterton , Brands Hatch, Donington, Cadwell many times, many track days with Team Tigers race car out with us too.…..their support is amazing, it’s just a hugely cost effective, fun package, Ford Zetec powered, very straightforward, no complications, highly visceral, like a big go kart on steroids ...but one that you can take your mates out in with you!          

This is a reliable trackday package that is ready to go out on track and really enjoy yourself, no Police Laser guns, potholes, speedhumps or Grandmas in their Honda Jazz Automatics. It's also an easy sale with the missus, she'll see her investment (you!!)  go past every few minutes and all of the emergency services are already there, god forbid!!

Been doing trackdays for 40years now (even managed a stint in racing). What you’ll see at race tracks is folk spending hours working on cars rather than using them. I’ve been there before... wasting sunshine and expensive track time and days off work and associated costs.  To make it worth it you need something that is right, not just cheap, something proven to run at track pace lap after lap and get your money’s worth.  More than the money, I don’t have the time to waste spending development hours off and on the track, I’ve done that, this is the right tool for the task.

You’ll be shocked at the G Force on your body, the high cornering speed and grip and braking force you have… with an ability to outpace much more expensive machinery. It’s an absolutely great bit of kit and you’ll have a blast!  If you’ve never driven a good Caterham 7 style car on a race circuit you’ll be flabbergasted where you can point it, how late you can brake and your apex speeds.  However, Caterhams are incredibly pricey for what you get and cost to upkeep too, the Tiger ethos is so different, so affordable to own. This is a track package though, track sorted, and therefore unwieldy on road. Have a wee look at Cadwell pic, the front is off the ground as you come up the 'Mountain' by the paddock and restaurant (and we're 2 up).

It’s over £30K worth of bits, never mind the hours that go into it and it’s up for a smidge over 10K (built, developed, tested) and I’ll happily demo it by buying a trackday at Snetterton and taking you out in it…..steady at first and build up to whatever pace you feel comfortable at. I’m open to a delivery chat and I'm also in the market for a cheapish (sub £4K) road bike, single or twin, looking for light weight and torquey, like XT660X.

Also worth noting, it’s a not a big cockpit.  If you are very wide on the hips or taller than about 5ft 10” you may not fit the race seats, with no more tunnel room to gain.  I’m a short 5ft 7 and a bit oinky but I fit like a glove.  A tall chap messaged me and I got a price from Tiger to rework the car ie to move steering column and pedals etc which was circa £750inc.  We did exactly that with my previous Tiger, to fit my 6ft 2in son, with the Tiger team modifying (they have done a vast amount of these config changes), turned around in a day and was a wee bit less (was many years ago).
