One of the most highly regarded of the 2 litre F2 cars, the Ralt RT1 is renown not only for its fine handling and build quality but also for the strength and safety of the monocoque.

The RT1 was a popular choice in all categories and set the standard and pace in F2 that was only matched when the March 782 was fully developed.

This particular example is believed to have been one of Ron Dennis’ Project Four cars For Eddie Cheever in 1977, then according to letters and invoices in the file it passed to Heini Mader at the end of the season in lieu of payment for engine work.
It was run by Mader for his team drivers in 1978 and then sold on to become a French Hillclimb car before being bought by Philip Harper in December 1993.

Campaigned by Harper relentlessly for almost 30 years it became one of the fastest and well known F2 cars on the grid, always presented in his distinctive blue colour scheme. In 2011 the monocoque was treated to a full strip and rebuild as required by Mathew Watts team at Retro Track and Air, the result was according to Harpers notes a two second per lap improvement at all circuits visited over the next couple of years!

The BMW M12 was refreshed by Harper prior to its sale to the current owner in 2022 and it has covered just over 500 miles which leaves at least the same again before overhaul if it is treated well.

We carried out a rebuild on the suspension and running gear during the winter of 2024 which involved stripping, crack testing, re-plating, chromating and new bearings, rod ends and sphericals as required all meaning the car is truly ready to go and in fine condition to run at the front of the F2 grid.
