205 GTi Turbo Technics Fast Road/Track Car - SOLD

This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.

Description:

This car has just 3 former keepers.  It's a Turbo Technics converted car, with placque, then further modified to be a very competent fast road/track car.

The Engine has recently undergone a comprehensive removal, strip and rebuild with quality components by a renowned Peugeot Specialist. It has completed around 500 miles since the work, including a 200 mile journey so it's proved itself and sufficiently run-in.

In 2012 the car was subject to a complete refresh after being stored for some years. In March 2013 it was prepared to be put back on the road & MOT'd by Pug1Off. Mechanically this car is in amazing condition, everything having been rebuilt or replaced & having done no more than 10k miles since.

Spec as follows:

Engine
1.9 turbo technics conversion but on proper mappable engine management - Emerald ECU, wasted spark coilpack ignition & new uprated injectors.  Running around 1 bar on high boost it produces approximately 190bhp and over 200lbft of torque. Low boost setting via switchable solenoid is around 160bhp. Mapped by Dave Walker at Emerald & i have a couple of other maps.

It runs the original TT stainless steel exhaust system, not loud or boomy, passes track noise regulations easily. It also has the original TT front mounted intercooler with custom pipework. Adjustable Fuel pressure regulator & in-line gauge fitted.

The Turbo is a T25 which was rebuilt by Turbo Technics with 360° bearing, some years ago but only approximately 10k miles ago.   Engine is held in place by Peugeot sport Grp N mounts.  Fresh oil, cambelt & tensioner, water pump, filters and NGK Iridium plugs fitted with rebuild, as were a set of new uprated Bosch injectors.  Combination of Samco and BBM silicone coolant hoses and most boost pipes are silicone. Mocal oil-cooler kit with thermostatic take-off plate, mounted alongside intercooler, both discretely behind the grille.

Gearbox.
BE1 gearbox with 3.6:1 final drive ratio, professionally rebuilt by transmission specialists, having covered around 8k since, latterly fitted with a Quaife ATB diff and new diff bearings, which has only seen around 5k miles. Works perfectly with very good synchromesh, no crunching and no heavy clutch as many BE1 boxes suffer. Ratio's also very suited to the torque and delivery of the engine, cruises nicely yet works well when on the boil on track etc.
200mm toothed flywheel for reliable crank position sensing. Helix uprated clutch.

Custom lengthened gear lever giving a precise short-shift closer to the steering wheel. Metal jointed GpN gear linkages, quick shift linkage and all fresh OE pivot bushes.

Suspension.
GAZ adjustable coilovers at the front, new/fitted in 2013 and AVO adjustable dampers at the rear, new in 2012.  Both front and rear suspension is lowered but not excessively, handling is superb. The rear beam has again only seen around 10k since rebuild with new bearings and shafts and has Peugeot sport Grp N mounts.  The front coilovers run on Peugeot sport Grp N top mounts. It had new drop-links and wishbones at the time of recommission by Pug1Off.

Brakes
Brakes underwent a full rebuild/refresh around 2k ago and work very well. 306 GTi6 54mm piston front calipers with new 283mm discs and pads.   Standard 1.9 rear discs with new discs, pads and handbrake cables. 306GTI6 23.8mm master cylinder and Wilwood adjustable brake bias valve.  All brake lines replaced with copper and Goodridge braided flexi-hoses. Brake system flushed and new 5.1DOT fluid again very recently.

Wheels & Tyres
Set of Standard 1.9 alloy wheels with very good Toyo's that haven't seen loads of miles. Peugeot sport wheel stud conversion for easy changes.

Bodyshell.
Body shell is straight & overall very solid for age, has had some repairs at the base of the rear quarter panels on both sides in 2012 which are still presentable.   Rust isn't a big issue as you're probably aware with 205's having been galvanised pretty well. There is some mild bubbling in places, around the rear tailgate glass & on passenger door, both more superficial than serious & easily repairable being a bolt-on panel. I actually have a spare tailgate and door should you want them. Certainly a better shell than many these days. Plated over sunroof.

Interior

Most of the interior stripped out, including central locking, electric windows, radio and rear wiper. Dash remains and all remaining electrics work as they should, including heater fan etc. Discrete ecu-controlled shift-light in dash binnacle.

Six point Safety Devices C12 bolt in cag.

Pair of very good condition fia spec Cobra seats & matching pair of FIA spec 3" harnesses.

General

Thatcham Cat 2 immobiliser with certificate.   MOT'd until April 2017.

V5 document present, old MOT's, tax discs & binder full of hundreds of invoices, receipts and previous history including the service book from early in the car's life, Turbo Technics documentation, period brochures and although all a little irrelevant since mechanically the car is very much refreshed, all a lovely nostalgic extra & proof of the love from its enthusiast owners.

Bad points;

The paintwork is faded, lacquer peeled and has it's defects, there's some small dinks and it's certainly not mint. The sunroof blanking panel is mild steel and painted both sides in black, though this is starting to flake off and a bit rusty. It has been used as a toy/track car for years and as such has not been deemed to be worth having the paintwork rectified. It is however presentable, if not a little tatty in appearance up close. It of course has a lot of potential, the shell is very solid and with the way 205 values are heading this is an investment with huge scope, especially with the period TT conversion.
With the bodywork restored & if the cage was to be removed, interior returned to standard in the future it'd obviously appeal to a wider market and no doubt be worth more.

It's a very capable car with the handling to match the performance, is easily one of the quickest cars on most trackdays with a competent driver, it'll pass Subaru's and Evo's, stay with well driven quick Elise/Exiges and chase Caterfields happily.

Priced at £5500ovno.

I appreciate this may seem optimistic and hence i am slightly negotiable, but try finding another Turbo-Technics car for sale, especially one as good as this, every modification has been well-thought out and nothing is cheap. To split it up would be criminal but there's a fair amount of money in the parts alone on this car.
These conversions are now pretty scarce and are far better than the 2.0 iron block engines from 406/Xantia's, especially like this with proper management running good reliable torque/power without being stressed, and this example has been exceptionally maintained.

Not desperate to sell but it won't see a lot of use in the near future which is a shame and admittedly the cash could be useful for my mortgage - Contact me to discuss, serious offers for a hassle-free sale will be considered. NO test-drives will be offered, i will fir a passenger seat & take serious interested parties only out for a drive in it.

If you're looking for a very capable, not to mention quick, weekend fun/track/sprint/hillclimb car that you won't be too precious about or have any mechanical worries over, this is well worth a look.

It's currently in East Lincolnshire.

It will drive you home if you like, although trailering it would obviously be more comfortable, especially if a longer journey. I'd happily drive it to the Nuerburgring tomorrow, as it was built partly in mind to do, no question of it's mechanical reliability at all, as said i carried out a 200-mile journey in it just recently whilst running it in.

No test drives or silly offers.
