History of Patrick Motors Richard Longman Mini Championship Touring Car

In 1978 with financial backing from British Leyland and Patrick Motors, Richard Longman modified and prepared this car to enter it into the British Touring Car Championships. It was entered in all 12 races, and he won his class 11 times, retired once and took the championship in fine style.

In the 1979 British Touring Car Championship Richard Longman took his class wins in 12 races with the result that he took the 1979 title too.

The British Touring Car Championships took place over the following race circuits: Silverstone, Oulton Park, Thruxton, Donington Park, Mallory Park, Brands Hatch and Snetterton.

At the end of the 1979 season the car went into the garage and didn't race for the next 30 years.

In March 2009 although the car now belonged to Dave Boswell, Richard Longman returned it to Silverstone for a BRDC track day. It also went to the Goodwood Revival/Festival of Speed.

The car comes with its original Vehicle Registration Document (SJW 807S) registered on 27 January 1978 to British Leyland UK, Ltd, Longbridge, Birmingham. It also comes with the RAC Motorsport Division British Leyland race recognition form plus many items of memorabilia relating to where it raced eg: tickets, maps, letters, stickers etc.
