Renault Sport Clio Cup X85 Evo –
MSA Rally Log booked.
Fully road registered with a year’s MOT
The car has been built into a rally car following the R3 factory car for inspiration. The car was converted in 2015 this included: the cage was upgraded further, higher final drive diff installed, larger front brake set up, custom wiring loom was installed, Avo remote reservoir 3 way adjustable coliovers with easy access, front and rear alloy sump guards, meshed radiator covers, removeable LED light bar on plug and all other legally required equipment for rallying (belt cutters, spill kit, signs, trip meter which routinely got updated)
We purchased the car in 2016; over the 5 years we have worked through any issues ending in a very reliable and quick car we see to date. From purchase the car was sent to Area Motorsport where it was looked over meticulously, lots of items we had changed at a cost of £3029 all with receipts.
We finished the last 8 rallies, including the Clacton open road rally with no mechanical issues or damage. The cars last competitive outing was Snetterton 2020; where we achieved a 4th in a class 19 against all the highly modified escorts, and finish well with in the top 30 against a strong field including a dozen R5 vehicles.
The car wants for nothing and has been serviced at no expense spared, the car retains the factory Sadev st75 gearbox, which we had serviced in 2019, we opted to change most internal parts in the name of longevity. Meaning there is a collection of spares for the gearbox. This was at a cost of £3600.
In 2019 we decided to change the engine, management and screen; the engine was from KTEC racing, the ECU is GenTune Pro and the screen is now a Aim2 screen as pictured. The original clio cup magnelli evo ECU and screen are included in the sale, these are now highly sought after items especially in EVO format. The engine was dyno’d at 225bhp and 190 foot pound along with a nice curve, again the graph is included. This work was all done for a cost of £6095; we will also include the old cup car engine, if I recall the power figure was around the 190bhp figure.
We have worked on removing weight from the car; it has gained from carbon R3 style mirrors, Perspex rear window on an ultra light single skin fibreglass boot and significantly lightened doors to name but a few items.
We have carried out other remedial works like uprating the starter motor and cable.
At the end of the 2020 season we decided to tidy the cars presentation up, brand new bumper (£620), wings etc was installed, we had the car de-stickered to inspect all the paint and body work before we reapplied graphics for the next season however plans changed and the car was unused after all this work was carried out; as you can see the car is in very good condition.
4x rims have been recently refurbed and balanced although unused to date.
10x clio 197 alloy wheels
4x Wet tyres
4x Dry softs
2 x Medium – unused
4x Custom AXLE stands into seals
1x Anderson battery connect
A large selection of spares are also included as per the pictures
Includes original clio cup x85 tech books from its previous life as a factory circuit car; it also still holds many of the original No paint sensor/stickers from the BTCC supporting race series.
In summary the car has been a brilliant first rally car for myself and co driver (late starters now in our 60’s!) if it was not for my co driver deciding to pursuit circuit racing whole heartedly I would 110% be keeping the Clio. I have no doubt if younger enthusiastic pairings get hold of this car it can seriously punch above its weight with a huge amount of potential yet to come. It really has to be driven to be believe how well it handles.
It has been used nearly exclusively in the Motorsport News Tarmac rally championship where results are easily found; car always found a lot of fans for its uniqueness.
It’s the closest thing to a £50k factory clio R3 that can be had and maintained at sensible costs.
