Austin A40 Farina
Description:
After 3 years of ownership and 9 out of 9 successfully completed races, the Austin A40 is for sale, having prevously raced in the HSCC Historic Touring Car Championship and CSCC Swinging Sixties. This is the cheapest way into this prestigious championship and one of the cheapest ways to start Historic Racing. It was originally developed by Pete Wright and more recently owned and raced by Rob Wainwright.
The car is a regular class winner and often punches above it's weight.
The engine is 1140cc, built buy Trevor Whybrow of TW Engineering including a recent new cylinder head. It produces 117bhp (dyno'd at BHPerformance). It was rebuilt and dyno'd on the 10/06/2020. It runs electronic ignition and a 45 Webber.
Most of the chassis/setup work was carried out by Sonny Howard of SHP Engineering.
A brief spec is as follows, feel free to ask any questions.
MG Midget gearbox, with a Quaife dog kit fitted by CCK Motorsport.
Uprated front discs with Willwood calipers
Larger rear drums
Fibreglass Doors, Bonnet, Boot and headlamp surrounds
Perspex windows
Telescopic Shock absorbers
5 link rear suspension
6 Point Fabricage roll cage
Stack Rev Counter
In my ownership the A40 has had new belts and fire extinguisher system, a rebuilt steering box and a rebuild of the front suspension (new king pins and uprights, discs and pads, wheel bearings).
The car has been ultra reliable, completing its last race at Cadwell Park on 17th May 2025.
