2014 Porsche 911 GT America – Ex-Dempsey/Wright Motorsports | IMSA GTD Podium Car

This 2014 Porsche 911 GT America is a truly special example with both historical significance and competitive potential – 1 of only 14 GT Americas produced, and an authentic piece of Porsche Motorsport history with direct ties to the IMSA GTD grid and Patrick Dempsey’s racing legacy.

The 911 GT America was based on the 991 GT3 Cup. It was built exclusively for the United Sports Car Racing (USRC) series and its GT Daytona class for 2014. While the GT3 Cup had a 3.8-litre engine at the time, the GT America was fitted with a 4.0-litre unit developing 351 kW. The main visual difference is the rear spoiler made to fit the USRC rules. Like the GT3 Cup, the GT America has 380 mm steel brake rotors at the front axle with 6-piston aluminium fixed calipers. The rear axle features 4-piston brake calipers. The gearbox is a 6-speed sequential unit with pneumatic paddle shift system.

Where is this Race Car Eligible?

– HSR (Historic Sportscar Racing): Eligible for HSR’s modern GT groupings—specifically the HSR Mission GT Challenge / Global GT categories that cover IMSA GTD/GT3 and Cup cars retired from contemporary competition. These run both at standalone HSR weekends and as IMSA support features at select events.

– Masters Endurance Legends (USA): Eligible on model/year grounds—MEL accepts GT machinery that ran in IMSA/ALMS/USCC between 1995–2016 (and to 2019 for GT3); this Porsche GT America (2014 IMSA GTD) fits that window. Final classing is at Masters’ discretion.

– Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion (Monterey Historics): A curated, application-only event focused on “authentic, historically significant” cars; recent run groups have included Grand-Am era GTs (e.g., a 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia Grand Am), showing modern GT acceptance case-by-case. Your VIN’s Daytona 24h/Dempsey pedigree strengthens the case. (Admission is not guaranteed and depends on annual group themes.)

– Velocity Invitational: Invitation-only historic festival known for showcasing significant IMSA/Le Mans machinery. Event cadence is shifting (the 2025 weekend is postponed to 2026), but the format and prior race-group guides reflect eligibility for period IMSA categories and curated exhibitions/demos—your car’s IMSA/Daytona history is right in the sweet spot for acceptance.

– Porsche Rennsport Reunion: Rennsport features multi-era Porsche race groups and headline Porsche one-make action; historically more than 300 Porsche race cars compete across seven decades. GT America/GT3-Cup-based entries regularly appear as part of the racing program or special demos. (Placement depends on that year’s race-group definitions.)
