1996 Ford Fiesta (ex-Credit Fiesta Championship car)

Description:

Originally built in 1996 to compete in Ford's one make series the 'Ford Credit Fiesta championship' (look it up on youtube, many current BTCC drivers used this series as a step up the ranks).

Registered in 1996, on paper the car is a MK4 1.4si and has a full V5 and vin but has only ever seen track use. The car was later facelifted in 2000 with the launch of the 'Zetec-S' to promote the new car.

I purchased the car from Joe Benn in 2022 who had done a fantastic job of upkeeping the car and had used it to compete in a few rounds of the 750mc Hot Hatch championship.

Since becoming the owner I've made a few changes to the spec along with some maintenance as I will list below.

Engine and drivetrain

- The original 1.4 16v engine has been replaced with a healthy 1.7 16v engine from a Ford Puma and is equipped with Newman PH2 Cams and an 'FRP' mapped TAPE ECU so now produces around 150bhp. Other work includes Cometic head gasket, gates timing belt kit, water pump, also cams were fitted with all new buckets and shims.

- Mocal oil cooler setup.

- Stack oil pressure gauge.

- Factory gate baffled fuel tank - Those who know these cars will understand why this is a must have for one of these.

- Exhaust system comprises of a stainless steel  4-2-1 exhaust manifold into a mild steel catback system. I stuck with this set up as I prefer the sound to be honest. A stainless steel catback system is included in the spares package if you'd prefer to run this.

- Gearbox is from the same 1.7 Ford Puma with the proper ratios for this engine, which I've fitted with an LSD from Gripper (TARMAC RACE SPEC) with all new bearings and seals. The dogbone mount is polybushed.

- Driveshafts have had new CV joints and boots fitted.

- Front suspension arms recently replaced with new polyurethane bushings.

- Front wheel bearings have just been replaced with uprated units.

- Rear wheel bearings recently replaced.

Suspension and chassis.

- Proflex 2 way adjustable dampers. These were overhauled at Proflex in 2023 with new uprated internals and flexi hoses at the cost of £800 and have only seen one trackday since.

- Hydraulic powersteering rack and components fitted from 2001 Zetec-s (These cars were originally manual rack).

- Original Ford Motorsport front suspension arms with spherical type bearings and caster optimised geometery and nylon rear bushings will be supplied in the spares.

- Rear beam is standard type fitted with polybush black series bushings.

- Full comprehansive roll cage as fitted from factory. Picks up on both front and rear turrets and includes gusseted door bars. Original documentation for the cage is included in the paperwork.

- OMP lower strut brace.

Brakes

- Front calipers are from the Zetec-s model running Mintex M1144 pads and Brembo discs. Included in the spares package are a brand new set of Mintex M1144 pads.

- Rear is still on drums, the back end of the car is seriously light so drums are more than adequate.

- Master cylinder is an early MK4 type so has no ABS and is internally biased. The car stops well and takes a fair bit of force to lock up the rears giving good confidence in hard braking areas in my opinion.

Wheels and tyres.

- 14'' Ford wheels wrapped in Yokohama AO48 tyres with plenty of life left. Included in the spares package are 2 brand new Yokohama AO48's.

- 15'' Zetec-S wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot sport tyres, again lots of tread, these were intended for use in wet weather.

- 4x ADO8RS tyres - Low tread but enough for a couple of trackdays/racedays.

Interior and safety.

- Mylaps transponder system.

- Lifeline fire supression system, cockpit and engine bay. (will need re-certification for racing).

- Sparco wraparound seat. (Out of date for racing).

- OMP harnesses. (Out of date for racing).

- Usual regulation electrical cut off switches and extinguisher pulls.

Body work and general condition.

- TRC Front splitter

- Being a 28+ year old race car it does have it's quirks, however there are no signs of serious damage and has done well considering how boisterous the series looks from clips I've found online. Paint is recent and of good quality. Overall very tidy for what it is in my opinion and none of the usual rust you find on the road cars. Rear arches and rear beam mounting areas are rust free with only a small amount of surface rust appearing on the outer floor. Could easily be tidied up and painted.

Spares (Included in price).

- 1.7 Puma engine.

- Larger Zetec-s front ARB.

- Several hubs.

- Several driveshafts.

- Lights.

- Mirrors.

- Stack coolant temp gauge.

- Lots of other random bits and bobs.

I'm reluctant to let her go but I've found myself in a position where I can no longer justify the cost of storage and transport for the car and I think it deserves a new home where it gets used.

Might be a little bit of wiggle room in the price for the right buyer.

Can also arrange UK wide delivery if needed.
