Ford Escort Mk 2 - V8 historic sports sedan
Description:
Professionally built in NZ the late 1990's to an extremely high standard. All panels are aluminium with the exception of the roof, pillars, cabin floor, and inner front wings. Front and rear guards are custom wide-body, splitter is custom, rear wing is custom. Significant chromoly roll cage.
This is a historic vehicle in NZ, and is period correct. It ran under the Sports Sedan / OSCA rules in NZ which was more or less an open class - the only limits being engine capacity of no more than 6 litres and rear wing no higher than the roof. NZ Log book history from 1999 to current.
NEW Small Block Chev 358ci engine 4 hours ago including NEW Dart block with everything inside it NEW, including Callies Magnum crank, Carrilo ultra light series rods, CP pistons, Crower lifters and cam followers, Aviad dry sump pan. Peterson oil primer. The bottom end is safe to 9,000rpm but has never been revved past 6,800rpm. Fuel type is avgas. Appox 650hp at the flywheel, dyno sheets available. The car weighs approx 965kg wet, so power to weight is astonishing!
Heads are aluminium Pro Top Line, 14 degree heads with all NEW gear 4 hours ago including T&D shaft mounted roller rockers, 3/8" Trend pushrods, Manley stainless valves. The heads were hardness tested in September 2024.
Custom headers (HPC coated) + full exhaust (exiting in front of the diff) were made and installed at the same time as the new engine, and is like new.
The following were all replaced with new items at the same time as the new engine: dry sump lines, MSD Pro billet distributor, MSD Digital 6AL ignition, Winning Edge 850 billet carb, high torque starter motor.
GEARBOX: new at the same time as the engine - Tremac TKX with 2.87 first gear and 0.81 fifth gear. SFI bellhousing and Quartermaster triple plate clutch replaced at the same time.
DIFF: Borg warner type 78, 9 bolt with Harrop Truetrac helical drive LSD centre (new at the same time as everything else). It is 3-linked with a watts linkage.
Coil overs all round, fully rose-jointed, 4 pot Willwoods on the front, 2 pot Willwoods on the rear (all new at the same time as everything else). Tilton adjustable pedal box with brake bias adjustable from the drivers seat. Blade type adjustable sway bars front and rear, with adjustment levers easily accessible from the drivers seat. Perspex windows all around.
Corner weighted with perfect 50/50 weight distribution due in part due to the engine being set back and sitting nice and low.
Spares package includes a second set of wheels which are identical to those on the car (16 x 12 rear, 16 x 9.75 front), fibreglass moulds for rear guards, bonnet skin, 1 x front guard (lightly damaged), front splitter sections, rear wing supports of various heights, misc other bits and pieces.
