LOLA T250 Formula Super Vau

Description:

Year of manufacture 1971 Delivered to Ecurie Bonnier, Switzerland. Driven by Gregor Kronegård, Sweden, in the races for the VW Gold Cup 1972. 

Chassis

Tubular space frame, some mounting points of the suspension renewed. The lower tubes were newly aligned because the old ones were bent due to ground contact. The frame was completely stripped, all old rivet holes were closed by me and the frame was then repainted.

Bodywork

All aluminum panels (floor, side panels) were newly fabricated. Polyester parts reworked, partly new connecting elements manufactured and finished with new original paint (including original decals). Air ducts for engine cooling newly fabricated. Glazing (Astralon) new. Seat newly upholstered. I recreated the wings based on the original template and they are adjustable.

Suspension
The existing longitudinal and transverse control arms etc. could be reused and were merely ground and industrially chrome-plated. All uniball joints checked and made operable. The wheel carriers have new wheel bearings and are newly painted.

Brakes
All brake cylinders completely overhauled, all lines new, all discs turned for true running. Brake force distribution can be adjusted at the pedal.

Gearbox
Hewland MK8 4-speed. Numerous small parts (aluminum shims, adjustment screws) renewed. Gear ratios: 14/36 17/34 20/32 22/28 (good for Hockenheim Nürburgring etc.)

Fuel system
2 rubber tanks (approx. 40 liters); 1 catch tank; 3 fuel pumps, all lines new, carburetor (Solex 40 Pii4 without float) overhauled (cleaned, new gaskets, membranes and springs).

Oil system
Dry sump approx. 8 liters oil capacity (up to 10 liters if required). Tank, all oil lines, connections, cooler, filter new. After installation of 2 sensors, both the temperature in the tank and in the engine can be read. (This allows you to see whether the cooling is working optimally).

Electrical system
Everything new. Battery new, charging connector and external starting connection retrofitted.

No. 127 V 2826; 1587 cc; Bore: 87.6 mm; Stroke: 66.0 mm; Pistons: D=87.04 mm Piston designation KS 087042 Compression ratio: 1:13 Piston speed at 7500 rpm 16.5 m/s Camshaft: 021.109.11B VW 13 H Marking on camshaft gear RO.227.3
After overhaul approx. 1 hour running time. Renewed: piston rings, cylinders honed. Valves newly lapped, new lightweight tappets and pushrods. Aluminum bearings renewed. Resealed. New clutch disc. Without all these improvements I achieved lap times under 2 minutes at the Nürburgring with this engine.

Instruments
Smith electronic tachometer with adjustable marker. Oil pressure gauge and additional warning light Oil temperature display (2 values switchable)

The rebuild happened 25 years ago. Since then the car was only used for exhibition purposes.
