Born in the golden era of touring car racing, this exceptional BMW M3 E30 embodies the raw spirit and engineering excellence that defined early 1990s motorsport. Developed by BMW Motorsport at the height of its dominance, the E30 M3 remains one of the most iconic and successful touring cars ever produced.

Chassis M3-1-167 was originally acquired in the winter of 1991–1992 by Team Autohaus Schaumberger, a BMW dealer based in Landsberg, and entered into top-level German endurance competition. Notably, this chassis is recorded as a genuine Schnitzer spare chassis, as confirmed by its original BMW Motorsport invoice—placing it firmly within the inner circle of factory-supported competition cars.

As documented in its original Wagenpass, the car was subsequently upgraded to 24h-Spezial / Group H specification—effectively aligning it with DTM-level performance standards for its participation in the VLN Championship. Enhanced with components sourced from Zakspeed, many of which remain fitted today, the car represents an authentic period evolution of a front-running touring car.

Crucially, the car retains its original BMW Motorsport factory engine from 1992, a rare and highly desirable feature. This 2.5-litre DTM-spec unit, producing approximately 350 horsepower, has seen only limited use since its full restoration and remains in outstanding condition.

The car competed in all nine rounds of the 1992 VLN Championship, achieving strong and well-documented results throughout the season. Its competitive pedigree is further reinforced by an extensive archive of documentation, including original invoices, Wagenpass, race results, and period photography.

Between 2014 and 2015, the car underwent a comprehensive restoration in New Zealand. At that time, it was refinished in the iconic factory livery of the 1992 Schnitzer BMW driven by Altfrid Heger, bringing its appearance in line with one of the most recognizable works cars of the era.

Today, the car is presented in full 1992 VLN specification and in race-ready condition. With only 12 hours of track use on its rebuilt engine, it offers an exceptional opportunity for collectors and competitors alike to acquire a genuine, period-correct touring car.
