Lotus 23B. Originally restored by Simon Hatfield Motor Racing in 1982 retaining the original chassis.  Simon at that time didn’t restore spaceframe chassis and this was outsourced to Coltman Creber (Ex Progress Chassis Company).  Anyone that knows about early Lotus will know of the Progress Chassis Company at Hornsey. 

Fantastic documented and photographic history during the 1980s and 1990s when it was campaigned successfully by some notable lady drivers including Gillian Goldsmith, Divina Galicia, Amanda Stretton and Suzan Young. This Lotus 23b was a well known regular competitor at Shelsley Walsh and Prescott Hill Climbs in the 1980s and 1990s.

Has been featured in many books such as "Lotus On The Hill" and “The Shelsley Walsh Story”

I purchase the Lotus 23b in 2020 and completed it’s second complete ground up restoration which included:

Chassis – fully stripped, any remedial work carried out, new roll bar constructed and stove enamelled. All new alloy panel work.

Engine – 1600 Lotus Twin Cam - Full rebuilt with new SAS CNC head, Fardon Steel Crank, Fardon Steel Conrods, Craig Beck Cams, Omega Pistons, new oil pump, fully rebuilt Italian Weber 45 Carbs, etc, etc.  Dyno’d at 170 BHP.

Gearbox - Hewland 5 Speed with Cam and Pawl diff with correct sand cast bearing carrier and end plate – rebuilt by Mark Bailey Racing.

New race light body work and screen, new Crosthwaite and Gardiner wobbly web wheels, new Girling AR and AN brake calipers, rebuilt dampers etc. etc.

The Lotus 23B is now ready to be used on the hills or on track again.
