Model History

Introduced for the 2017 season, the Porsche 911 RSR (991.2) marked one of the most significant evolutions in Porsche’s modern GT racing program. Developed by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach, the car was built to compete at the highest level of international endurance racing, including the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA series.

Based on the 991 platform, the RSR featured a heavily revised chassis, advanced aerodynamics, and — for the first time in a factory 911 RSR — a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine mounted ahead of the rear axle, greatly improving balance and handling characteristics.

Paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox, the 991.2 RSR quickly became one of the benchmark cars in GTE competition, earning victories and podium finishes at many of the world’s most prestigious endurance races while continuing Porsche’s legendary GT racing heritage.

Chassis History

Porsche 911 RSR chassis WP0ZZZ99ZJS199915 enjoyed an active international competition career at the highest level of GT endurance racing. Campaigned primarily in the FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series between 2018 and 2020, the car competed in many of the world’s most prestigious endurance events, including multiple appearances at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Throughout its racing career, the chassis was driven by an accomplished roster of factory and professional drivers such as Dennis Olsen, Matteo Cairoli, Christian Ried, Thomas Preining, Gianmaria Bruni, and Richard Lietz. The car competed at iconic circuits including Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, Silverstone, Bahrain, Circuit of the Americas, and the Red Bull Ring.

The chassis achieved several notable class results during its ELMS campaigns, beginning with a strong second-place class finish at the 2018 4 Hours of Monza with Christian Ried, Dennis Olsen, and Matteo Cairoli. The following season proved particularly successful, highlighted by a third-place class finish at the 2019 4 Hours of Paul Ricard, a class victory at the 2019 4 Hours of Monza, and an additional second-place class finish at the 2019 4 Hours of Spa with the driver lineup of Ried, Cairoli, and Pera.

Additional highlights include appearances at the 24 Hours of Le Mans as well as a class podium finish at the 8 Hours of Bahrain in 2020. Campaigned during one of the most competitive eras of modern GT racing, chassis 199915 represents an authentic example of Porsche’s successful 991.2 RSR program.

Following its retirement from frontline competition, the car remained in the ownership of Proton Competition, the team that originally campaigned the chassis from new. More recently, the car underwent a comprehensive restoration to full race-ready condition by Proton Competition, including a freshly rebuilt engine and gearbox, ensuring the chassis is fully prepared for historic racing, track use, or top-level collection purposes.
