Offered for sale is my unique 2004 MG ZS 1.6, professionally built as a road-going tribute to Anthony Reid’s iconic MG ZS British Touring Car Championship racer.

Unlike many replicas, this car features a bespoke body conversion that cannot be bought off the shelf, with professionally handmade components produced by Area22 Designs. The result is an incredibly faithful recreation of one of the most recognisable BTCC touring cars of the early 2000s.

The quality of the build has been recognised throughout the MG and touring car community. It was featured on the front cover of MG Enthusiast magazine, accompanied by a multi-page feature, and the bonnet has been signed by Anthony Reid himself, who described it as “the best replica I’ve ever seen.”

The car has also appeared at a number of motorsport events, including the Brooklands Autumn Motorsport Show, Super Touring Power at Brands Hatch and the BTCC meeting at Thruxton, where it always attracts plenty of attention.

I bought the car in January 2025 as a lifelong fan of the golden era of the BTCC. During my ownership it has been kept garaged and primarily used for shows, motorsport events and fair-weather drives.

The car starts, drives and sounds exactly as you’d hope. The straight-through exhaust gives it plenty of touring car character to match the looks, while it remains fully road registered and MOT’d.

Around £700 was spent on maintenance last year, including a replacement rear tyre and renewal of the front-left outer CV joint boot. The corresponding invoices will be included with the sale.

Equally, it can simply be enjoyed exactly as it is – a distinctive, usable road-going recreation of one of the most recognisable touring cars from the early-2000s BTCC era.

The combination of the bespoke Area22 Designs conversion, MG Enthusiast cover feature, appearances at major motorsport events and Anthony Reid-signed bonnet gives the car a story and provenance that very few replicas can match.

Please note that this is currently a road-going BTCC tribute rather than a competition-prepared race car and is not fitted with a roll cage or current race-series safety equipment, although could be converted.
