This car competed in the 1989 24 Hours of Le Mans driven by factory drivers John Sheldon (GB) and Robin Donovan (GB), alongside Max Cohen-Olivar (FR-MA)

Background

Tiga was founded by Tim Schenken and Howden Ganley, both former Formula 1 drivers — the name “Tiga” coming from Tim and Ganley. Throughout the 1980s, the company produced over 400 racing cars, many for the Group C2 category.
Tiga raced successfully in the World Sportscar Championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as in Intersérie and IMSA Lights in North America.

In 1989, Tiga developed the final evolution of the GC model, built specifically for Group C2 competition. Only three chassis were produced in this latest configuration — including chassis No. 372 now offered for sale.
Designated GC289, this version features a significantly revised cooling layout compared to the previous GC288: the water radiator moved to the front (hence the wide-open nose section), with NACA ducts on the flanks feeding the oil coolers. The underbody diffuser was also optimized for improved downforce.

Entered in the 1989 24 Hours of Le Mans by the Tiga Race Team, the car retired due to a transmission failure. It later competed successfully in the World Sports Prototype Championship, winning the C2 class at Donington in 1989 and achieving overall victory there in 1990.
