William I'Anson Ltd are delighted to offer for sale the Ex-Team Lotus, Alan Stacey, New Zealand Grand Prix, 1959 Lotus 15 – Series 3.

This is one of only a small number of Lotus 15 to carry the desirable ZF 4-speed gearbox, this stunning Series 3 was supplied new to Team Lotus and was driven with notable success by Works driver Alan Stacey during the 1959 season.

Well known as being one of the most complete and original examples left in existence, it still uses its original engine (all be it currently running a replacement block), original ZF 5-speed gearbox, and is accompanied by its original numbered engine block and bodywork. According to a leading historian, 621 may have potentially been taken to Le Mans in 1959 as a spare car or even a second entry.

Driven to an impressive 7th in the 1960 New Zealand Grand Prix by Jim Palmer, in the company of Moss, Mclaren and Brabham, all in 2. 5-litre Cooper Grand Prix cars, before continuing a well documented and decorated racing career on into the 1970’s. Re-imported into the UK by respected historic racer and collector Spencer Flack in the early 2000’s.

Raced with great success by Ewan McIntyre with numerous wins, overall class victory in the Stirling Moss Trophy 2009, 2010 and 2011, 2nd in Goodwood’s Madgwick Cup, 5th in the Goodwood’s Sussex Trophy, and an impressive 2nd overall in the hard fought Plateaux 3 at Peter Auto’s Le Mans Classic.

Purchased by the current owners in 2017, it has it has continued to prove itself as a formidable contender, with multiple showings in Goodwood’s Sussex Trophy, where it set the fastest lap of the race in 2019, front row of the grid for the 78th Goodwood Members Meeting, 4th overall in the 2019 Stirling Moss Trophy round at Donington, and a race winner with the VSCC.
As the Lotus 15 continues to prove itself the car to beat both at Goodwood, Le Mans, Peter Auto, Stirling Moss Trophy and GTSCC; this is an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire such an original and well regarded Ex-Works Lotus, with period Grand Prix history and a more recent race record that speaks for itself as an absolute proven front running 50’s Sports Car.
